The Antarctic attraction is located in the heart of this campus and has twice been voted the best attraction in NZ. It is a fun interactive and hands on experience - slide down a snow slope in the world's first indoor Snow & Ice Experience, throw a snowball, or try on your own Antarctic clothing at the Camp Site area.

The Dunedin Haggis Ceremony (Scottish Welcome)

Dunedin has evolved its own Haggis Ceremonies – they are lively, ritualistic and colourful. This is a memorable welcome for any group. The Royal Albatross Colony

The Royal Albatross Colony at Taiaroa Head, on the tip of the Otago Peninsula, is the only mainland breeding colony for any albatross species found in the southern hemisphere. The first Taiaroa-reared albatross chick flew in 1938 and this now protected nature reserve has grown into an established colony with a population of around 140 birds.

The sight of a soaring albatross is unforgettable - held aloft on slim wings up to 3 metres (9'6") across, the great Albatross is capable of swooping speeds of more than 115kph. Viewing these majestic seabirds in their natural environment is not to be missed.

You will be taken on a 60 minute tour of the colony. There are spectacular views of the Albatross from the Richdale Observatory. The tour also includes the introductory "Attenborough" video and albatross breeding cycle information.

Penguin Place

Penguin Place is the home of the Yellow-eyed Penguin Conservation Reserve. The conservation project was established in 1985 by Howard McGrouther when there were only 8 breeding pairs of Yellow-eyed Penguins. In the summer of 2006 there were 19 pairs breeding in the colony.

You will be taken on a 90 minute guided tour through the colony where you will get to see the birds close up. The covered trenches and observation huts hide visitors so the penguins do not get frightened. This enables you to observe them going about their daily business unperturbed by your presence.

Larnach Castle

This is New Zealand’s only Castle! It was built in 1871 by William Larnach (a merchant baron and politician) for his beloved first wife Eliza. 200 workmen spent three years building the Castle and master European craftsmen spent a further 12 years embellishing the interior. Larnach spared no expense on his dream home, which features the finest materials from around the world.

The Castle is still privately owned and cared for by the Barker family. This superbly crafted building with magnificent architecture showcases a unique collection of New Zealand antiques, with a tragic and scandalous history.

You will be taken on an exclusive guided tour of the castle and then enjoy lunch in the magnificent Castle Ballroom.

Real Journeys New Zealand – Milford Sound Nature Cruises

Real Journeys is a locally owned and operated company that has been sharing Milford Sound with travellers for over 50 years.

In Maori legend, the fiords were created not by rivers of ice, but by Tu Te Raki Whanoa, a godly figure who came wielding a magical adze and uttering incantations. Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) is without doubt his finest sculpture. Whatever the fiord’s mood, teeming with rain or with sun glistening on deep water, it will inspire you.

Explore Milford Sound in a leisurely and casual way with the nature cruise. The vessels, the Milford Mariner and Milford Wanderer, have been designed along the lines of traditional trading scows and have been purpose built to operate in the fiords. The vessels are modern and offer a relaxing, extended cruise option.

For those on board wanting to learn about the magnificent scenery and wildlife, the nature guide provides a detailed commentary (English only). Keep a look out for dolphins, seals and penguins.

Unique glimpses of local life are afforded as the homes lining the lakeshore flash by, before passengers take in stunning views of the Remarkables mountain range and natural land formations. But it’s not just the views and river gardens – the excitement begins in the Shotover River, where your driver’s skills are challenged as he navigates the shallow, braided channels of this world-renowned river. At speeds of up to 85 kilometres per hour, in water often less than 10cm deep – this is where the jet boat comes into its own.
