| WHEN THE ANCESTORS OF THE MAORI WOULD LAY TO REST, ONE OF THEIR LEADERS, THOSE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE, THEY WOULD USE THE PHRASE - 'KUA HINGA TE RATA WHAKAMARUARU' MEANING THE SHELTERING RATA TREE HAS FALLEN TO THE GROUND. SIGNIFICANT OF THE FACT THAT IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO FILL THE SPACE IN THE FOREST THAT THE FALLEN TREE HAS LEFT. SUCH AS IT IS WITH LARRY OLER. A FINE EXAMPLE OF A GOOD MAN AND WE WERE PRIVILEGED TO KNOW HIM. | |

| A service was first conducted in Kona on
the Big Island Of Hawaii where he was serving as President of the Kona
Hawaii Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From
there he was transported to the Main land USA to his home & family
in Lehi Utah. The congregation at the service there was made up of large
numbers of New Zealanders (Maori), Hawaiians, Samoans and many many
friends that knew and loved this gentle giant. The unexpected attendance
of the Prophet and President of the Church, President Gordon B. Hinckley,
reinforced to all who was there the greatness and goodness of Larry.
President Hinckley reiterated all the good things he had done for the
church and peoples all over the world. He said of Larry, that he was
born in the cold of Stirling, Alberta Canada and he spent the most of
his life in the warmth of Polynesia. But what made Larry loved amongst
us all was his genuine love (Aloha, Aroha) for every person regardless
of ones origins or weaknesses. Following the services a huge feast was
prepare which in fact turned into a all out CCH , CCS & CCNZ Alumni
reunion. Both teachers, administrators, students who worked at and
attended those schools came together to celebrate Larry's life. The next
day, his loving family transported him to their family burial lot in
Shelley Idaho. Just want to say 'Thanks to you Larry - the World that we
know is a better place because of you'
